A gunman has opened fire on what were apparently random targets in Tehama County in Northern California. Five people are dead.  At least two children were wounded in an elementary school.  One young boy was shot in the foot and chest.  The shootings took place over seven locations.  Witnesses say more than 100 rounds were fired.  Those are the numbers so far and  The Los Angeles Times has details.

But here’s the number you really need to think about: 390.  For the 390th time this year, we’ve had a mass shooting in America. There’s even a website so you can follow along as the numbers rise and the bodies pile up.  Despite all of the violence this year, it’s hard to believe we are actually behind the 2016 count of 477 mass shootings.  We can only hope that with holidays upon us, the next 45 days will bring peace.
