We continue to learn more about January 6th and the events that led up to the siege on Capitol Hill. Today the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the rally outside the Capitol that day was “arranged and funded by a small group including a top Trump campaign fundraiser and donor facilitated by far-right show host Alex Jones.”
“Mr. Jones personally pledged more than $50,000 in seed money for a planned Jan. 6 event in exchange for a guaranteed “top speaking slot of his choice,” according to a funding document outlining a deal between his company and an early organizer for the event.”
And the newspaper says the heiress to Publix Super Markets, a Florida based grocery chain, committed “about $300,000 through a top fundraising official for former President Trump’s 2020 campaign, according to organizers.”
After this story surfaced, the hashtag #BoycottPublix began trending.
This isn’t the first time Publix has been connected the Republican party. Earlier this month, The Miami New Times reported that Publix “made a six-figure contribution to the state’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, last month.” Publix recently became the only retail location in Florida to distribute the vaccine. And in Palm Beach county there was an uproar after the grocery chain became the only location where people could get the vaccines recently. Coincidence?
The Sun-Sentinel reported that County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay said:
“I am absolutely disgusted the governor of this state has 100% percent taken the ability to vaccinate our residents in Palm Beach County out of the hands of our public health officials and medical officials and given that authority to a corporate entity.”
After the outrage, the state back tracked.
@Publix, you’d be wise to remember you’re not the only grocery game in town. Buying your way into the vaccine arena, and your $300K Trump contribution that largely funded the Trump rally that incited the Capitol violence and insurrection. Both bad moves.
