The final number is in. In one four-year term, Donald Trump amassed an astounding number of falsehoods, untruths, or as most of us call them, lies.
According to the Washington Post, the Pinocchio president “accumulated 30,573 untruths during his presidency — averaging about 21 erroneous claims a day.” Think about that for a second. An AVERAGE of 21 lies a day.
Here’s the tally by year:
- 2017: 6 lies per day
- 2018 16 lies per day
- 2019 22 lies per day
- 2020 39 lies per day
For most people, it would be difficult to lie 39 times a day. Not Trump. Many days he had more. As the Post writes:
Put another way, it took Trump 27 months to reach 10,000 false or misleading claims and another 14 months to reach 20,000. He then exceeded the 30,000 mark less than five months later.
Major kudos to the Washington Post for undertaking, and surviving, this arduous task. Let’s hope the next four years will be a lighter lift.
