Political commentator Van Jones got a chance to interview senior advisor to the President, Jared Kushner, for 45 minutes today for CNN’s day-long political forum “Citizen CNN.” Kushner does few interviews so this could have been a big opportunity to ask questions that Kushner has rarely, if ever, been asked. Jones is getting a lot of pushback though, especially for his first question:
“How did you get this job? You have like the dopest job in the world, the secretary of everything… You’re a business guy, how did you wind up in this position?”
Kushner, of course, is Donald Trump’s son-in-law. So does that question really need to be asked?
The timing of this interview couldn’t be better for questions on what happened to Jamal Khashoggi and Jones did touch on the topic.
CNN's Van Jones: “Do you trust the Saudis to investigate themselves?”
Jared Kushner: “We’re getting facts in from multiple places. Once those facts come in, the Secretary of State will work with our national security team to help us determine what we want to believe” #CITIZENCNN pic.twitter.com/JW8MDkHl3J

The first question was fair, but that question begged a follow-up on what he meant by “what we want to believe.” And how about asking about Kushner’s relationship with Saudi’s Crown Prince. At one point it seemed like Jones might ask about it, but then he brushed by it with a chuckle.
In recent weeks, Lesley Stahl, the AP White House team & now Van Jones have all secured rare sit-down interviews with Trump and Kushner; rare opportunities for a non-Fox interviewer to hold this dishonest, racist, unhinged White House to account.
And they've all blown it. Sigh.

Van Jones' interview with Jared Kushner was a master class in how not to do that https://t.co/xlxWdpCaHZ pic.twitter.com/UIgpLTxZb5
