When you tell someone from another country how Americans are treated in their healthcare system, the reaction you get is, usually a version of ‘you’ve got to be kidding!’ Watch this sampling of reaction when a reporter from the British YouTube channel, Politics Joe, told some Brits what Americans pay for:
“In the UK, an ambulance callout costs you £0 in medical bills. The birth of your child costs you £0 in medical bills. In the USA, it’s a different story. We asked members of the public to guess how much they’d have to pay for simple medical services in America, and what they think about the NHS.”
After being told things like the cost of an ambulance ride, inhalers and EpiPens, reactions include: “so if you’re poor, you’re dead,” “shut the fridge,” and “that’s mad.”
The video (watch above) is getting the attention of U.S. lawmakers.
This is what happened when people in the U.K. were asked how much health care costs in the U.S.
Remember that our outrageous for-profit system is not the norm in other countries.
We can and we must do better.

To our friends in the UK: please cherish, protect, & continue investing in your healthcare system!
Once Big Pharma & special interests get their hands on it, it could take generations to regain.
Millions of people in the US are fighting to have a system half as good as the NHS. https://t.co/gPR2oq7ZSw
