Tiger Woods is awake and recovering in a Los Angeles hospital today after his single-car accident. Early Wednesday, his team posted an update on Woods’ social media quoting a doctor who said the golfer suffered “significant” injuries to his right leg. During emergency surgery, a rod was inserted in his lower leg, along with screws and pins in his ankle.

Police say Woods didn’t appear impaired but was traveling at a high rate of speed. The area where Woods crashed is known to be dangerous. TMZ reports, “TMZ spoke with a number of locals who live in the Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates area — where Tiger’s 2021 Genesis GV80 lost control and rolled over in a nasty wreck — and we’re being told the same thing by all … it’s a gnarly bend, that catches up with you if you’re going too fast and unfamiliar with the area.”
Wednesday Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva pointed out “This is purely an accident.” The Los Angeles Times writes:
The “black box” from Woods’ SUV will provide investigators with information on how fast he was driving when he lost control just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, Villanueva said.
Villanueva had previously said Woods’ vehicle was traveling at a “relatively greater speed than normal” when it crossed the center divider and rolled over, ending up about 30 yards up a hillside.
