Thousands of mourners paid their respects to George Floyd at The Fountain of Praise Church in Houston, Texas. This public viewing and memorial in Floyd’s hometown comes exactly two weeks after he died in Minneapolis.

Several other families who have been impacted in ways similar to Floyd’s family were also in attendance.

Joe Biden flew to Houston to meet with Floyd’s family in advance of the memorial and it certainly seemed like his trip wasn’t a photo opportunity. Instead, it was about doing something that is perhaps one of his biggest strengths, comforting a family who has lost a loved one. Biden didn’t even tweet about the visit, instead, we learned the details from one of the attorneys for the Floyd family. Ben Crump wrote this about the visit:
Listening to one another is what will begin to heal America. That’s just what VP @JoeBiden did with the family of #GeorgeFloyd – for more than an hour. He listened, heard their pain, and shared in their woe. That compassion meant the world to this grieving family.

A private funeral will be held tomorrow for Floyd. He is then expected to be buried in Houston next to his mother.
