NPR reports:
On Tuesday, U.S. senators, who act as jurors in an impeachment trial, will be sworn in.
The trial itself will begin on Feb. 9, giving the nine House impeachment managers and Trump’s defense team two weeks to file briefs and finalize their legal preparations.
In the meantime, Senate business will continue to tackle COVID relief and Biden cabinet member confirmations.
Over the next couple of weeks, we are expected to learn more about how the trial will operate, including whether there will be witnesses.
“We’re waiting to see what the rules will be around that. Again, we’re not going to reveal any tactics this early until we know what the rules are,” impeachment manager Rep. Eric Swalwell says when asked if members of Congress like Rep. Kevin McCarthy will be called as witnesses. pic.twitter.com/Y4qbfW7JkT
