Normally the word emergency means urgent, right away, you can’t wait any longer. That is why a lot of people are wondering why Donald Trump is hemming and hawing over whether to declare a national emergency to get his wall built. Stephen Colbert has an interesting take on this:
I may probably, definitely, certainly for sure, though, perhaps-not. Tell you what, let me check the magic eight ball. no, it says try again later. But you know that’s just how emergencies are. You never can tell whether they’re urgent or not. “Hello, 911? Can you send a fire truck right away? My house might be on fire. maybe, maybe not. we’ll see.”
