Late Friday night, just before midnight to be exact, Donald Trump’s doctor said the president’s lack of symptoms “indicated” he didn’t need to be tested for coronavirus. But then Saturday, Trump said he actually took a test at some point Friday. It’s hard to understand, why then, that memo was released. But just hours after Trump then said it would take a day or two to get results back, the president’s physician, Sean Conley, wrote:
“Last night after an in-depth discussion with the President regarding COVID-19 testing, he elected to proceed. This evening I received confirmation that the test is negative.”
With the conflicting information about whether the president was going to get tested, there are questions being raised. The Washington Post wrote:
Trump’s testing announcement appeared to catch some aides off guard, including Vice President Pence, especially given that the president’s physician released a memo hours earlier stating that the risk for Trump was “low.”
The immediate skepticism from Trump critics about his negative coronavirus test is the latest reminder of how he has squandered the credibility he needs in a moment of national emergency — especially when it come to his health.
