Royal Fallout After Racist Allegations By Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

The interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hasn’t aired in England yet, but there is no doubt the Royal family is reeling from the explosive revelations shared by the couple. The headline out of The Guardian sums it up:

“The Duchess of Sussex accused the royal family on Sunday night of fostering an atmosphere of racial hostility so intense that she came close to suicide while pregnant with her first child.”

During the two-hour conversation with Oprah Winfrey, the couple, who was not paid to take part in the interview, said an unnamed Royal questioned how dark their son’s skin would be.

Oprah Winfrey told CBS This Morning today that his grandparents (the Queen and Prince Philip) were not the ones who brought up their baby’s skin color. Prince Harry actually spoke fondly about his grandmother multiple times during the interview. Things didn’t seem as rosy with his closest family members though. During the interview, Princess Harry revealed a rift with his dad and his brother saying he and Prince William are taking some “space” right now. He also said his dad, Prince Charles, stopped taking his calls at one point.

Perhaps the most shocking thing about the interview was how much the couple was willing to share. The was a rare glimpse into an extremely private family. While members of the family don’t normally react to their names in the news, Royal Correspondent thinks this interview will almost certainly warrant a statement.

BBC News adds, “It’s not at all clear if and how the palace will respond. Many of the revelations are so personal that getting any reaction seems unlikely. The Queen has made clear repeatedly the affection in which the couple are still held. As for the newspapers that the couple so despise – will they change their tune? It is not in their nature.”
