Police report the assailant then took his own life. CNN reports:
Police were called to the facility at about 11 p.m. local time for what has become the country’s deadliest shooting since 10 people were killed March 22 in a grocery shooting in Colorado.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Craig McCartt said investigators have an idea of who the FexEx facility’s gunman is, but will not reveal a name until positive identification is made by investigators and the coroner. FBI Agent in Charge Paul Keenan said investigators were searching a home this morning.
McCartt went on to say that the suspect came to the facility, got out of his car and began to randomly start shooting after that.
“There was no confrontation with anyone that was there. There was no disturbance. There was no argument. He just appeared to randomly start shooting. And that began in the parking lot and then he did go into the building, into the facility, for a brief period of time before he took his own life.”
Friday afternoon police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole. The Associated Press reports he was a former FedEx employee and that police seized a gun from him last year.
At a news conference Friday, Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt also confirmed the gunman’s identity as 19-year-old Brandon Scott Hole. McCartt said Hole was a former employee of the company and last worked for FedEx in 2020. McCartt said he did not know why Hole left the job or if he had ties to the workers in the facility.

Investigators say they don’t have a motive yet but are reportedly searching his car, home and devices. They are also talking to those close to him for any clues on what might have set him off. There are reports a relative called police in the past as well to say that Hole was threatening to commit suicide.
“I saw a man, a hooded figured … the man did have an AR in his hand, and he starting shouting and then he started firing.”
