For many restaurants, 2020 meant the end of the line. COVID-19 dealt a blow that many restaurant owners simply couldn’t survive. And the pending stimulus bill (if it’s ever signed by Donald Trump) isn’t doing much to ease worries. The Wall Street Journal reports:
Many restaurant owners fear a bleak winter after their priority—cash grants to keep their businesses alive while many dining rooms are closed—wasn’t included in the roughly $900 billion coronavirus relief bill approved by Congress this week.
A new Food Network documentary spotlights what restaurants have been doing to survive in these unprecedented times. “Restaurant Hustle 2020: All on the Line,” was produced by Guy Fieri. The Food Network star has taken it upon himself to become an advocate for the struggling industry. Newsweek reports:
Fieri worked to raise more than $21.5 million in seven weeks to help unemployed restaurant workers, prompting many to praise him for “doing more than Congress” to assist struggling hospitality employees during the pandemic.
NBC writes about the movie premiering tonight:
The documentary follows four chefs and business owners who describe the impact of the pandemic in their own words. One chef, Antonia Lofaso, said that she spent a decade building her career only to see it all disappear.
