Donald Trump is now calling the Bob Woodward book a “con on the public.”  Woodward never interviewed Trump but it wasn’t for lack of trying.    All attempts to get Trump on the record were rebuffed.  But now Trump says he didn’t know about the book, sort of.

Woodward recorded, with Trump’s permission, a telephone call with the President.  On the call, Woodward says he tried several avenues to interview Trump. Kellyanne Conway also gets on the phone saying she put in a request for Woodward to talk to Trump and it was denied. Woodward says he tried 7-8 people who work directly with Trump and all denied his request.

The Washington Post has posted the call as well as the transcript. Here’s part of it:

Trump: It’s really too bad, because nobody told me about it, and I would’ve loved to have spoken to you. You know I’m very open to you. I think you’ve always been fair. We’ll see what happens. But all I can say is the country is doing very well. We’re doing better economically just about than at any time. We’re doing better on unemployment maybe than ever.
