Lissa Lucas is running for local office in her home state of West Virginia. One topic she wanted to address was a land issue. After inheriting land from her late grandfather, she soon discovered that landowners in West Virginia have a history of what she considers to be “property invasion” by oil and natural gas companies. Lissa decided to fight back against a bill that would change drilling consent in the state, only needing 75% of affected landowners concent rather than the current 100%.
She attended a public hearing last Friday where she chose to use her one minute and forty-five seconds of allotted speaking time to highlight just how much she believed those companies’ campaign contributions affected the passage of the bill. When she mentioned a lawmaker in attendance Lissa was promptly dragged out of the chamber. Guess Freedom of Speech didn’t apply?
