In the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver opines on why the Senate is now “a giant non-functioning roadblock.” He says:

“It’s become so difficult to pass a law… We have reached the point where Senators don’t so much brag about what they have passed, as brag about what they will obstruct.“

Oliver says there is a big, time-wasting tool that helps Senators stall legislation:

“The Senate is supposed to address America’s problems and the filibuster is making it basically impossible for them to do that.”
