If Donald Trump thought he would silence former CIA Director John Brennan by revoking his security clearance, he may want to think again. Shortly after Sarah Sanders made the announcement Brennan spoke with MSNBC at length saying;
“I do believe that Mr. Trump decided to take this action, as he’s done with others, to suppress any criticism of him or his administration … it’s his way of trying to get back at me.”
This action is part of a broader effort by Mr. Trump to suppress freedom of speech & punish critics. It should gravely worry all Americans, including intelligence professionals, about the cost of speaking out. My principles are worth far more than clearances. I will not relent. https://t.co/TNzOxhP9ux

He went on to tell MSNBC:
“I do believe all Americans really need to take stock of what is happening now in our government and how abnormal and how irresponsible and how dangerous these actions are. So again if Mr. Trump believes this is going to lead me to go away and be quiet he is very badly mistaken.”
Others are also voicing their concern about this move by the President:
In the time I have known him, John Brennan has never been afraid to speak up and give it to you straight. Revoking his security clearance is an act unbecoming of a President. If you think it will silence John, then you just don't know the man.

@JohnBrennan is an extraordinary patriot and professional. I’m deeply proud to call him a valued colleague and cherished friend. Those who diminish his service and patriotism, past and present, only denigrate themselves. #freespeech

This is a partisan and vindictive violation of the First Amendment, designed to shut up Trump’s critics. It won’t work and, worse, it’s a serious abuse of presidential power, arguably a “high Crime and Misdemeanor.” @AriMelber @chrislhayes @Lawrence https://t.co/HNYgMhWs7F
