Joe Scarborough eviscerated Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg today. The impassioned MSNBC host said:
Politicians Must Stop Protecting Social Media Billionaires who are given a free pass while putting American democracy at risk. Facebook promotes extremist groups that KILL Federal Officials and fuels conspiracies that could spread COVID-19.
What set Scarborough off was the report of the arrest of an alleged “Boogaloo” extremist named Steven Carillo charged in the killing of a federal officer during George Floyd protest. Carrillo wrote in a Facebook group on May 28 that the unrest is “on our coast now, this needs to be nationwide” and that “it’s a great opportunity to target the specialty soup bios,” according to the complaint.
For six minutes this morning, Scarborough laid into Zuckerberg. Here’s part of what he said:
“Mark Zuckerberg is promoting the extremism, because Mark Zuckerberg is actually — his site, the Zuckerberg site, has actually set up! Set up! Like, ad promotions that actually push people towards extremist sites that kill federal officers! And Mark Zuckerberg becomes a billionaire! How many times over? Because he’s pushing people towards extremist sites that gun down and murder federal officials. Mark Zuckerberg’s site. Sheryl Sandberg’s site. They were warned in 2016 that foreign powers were going to use their site to interfere with American democracy. The American democracy that so many men and women have fought and died for, to protect.”
“When you find that a federal officer is mowed down by, is killed by a right-wing extremist group and it is Mark Zuckerberg, whose platform is promoting that group, by pushing people to that group, then his words are meaningless. He is lying to you. He is lying to himself. He is lying to the American people. And Congress and the next President of the United of States need to stand up to the billions and billions of dollars in Silicion Valley and hold these people, hold these billionaires accountable for their lies and for their undermining of American democracy.”

Joe Scarborough had his, “Network” moment this morning – “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore.” If only our elected officials would be one-tenth as energized, pi$$ed off and determined to change things for the better. @JoeNBC
