Joe Biden officially nominated Pete Buttigieg to be Secretary of Transportation saying, “He is one of the smartest people you will ever meet and one of the most humble.”

“A mayor from the heartland, a management expert, a policy wonk with a big heart, a veteran … A new voice with new ideas, determined to move past old politics.”

The South Bend Tribune writes, “If confirmed, Buttigieg will have much on his plate right out of the gate. He’ll be tasked with putting in place Biden’s proposals to spend billions making major infrastructure improvements and on retrofitting initiatives that can help the United States fight climate change. More immediately, the president-elect also wants to mandate mask-wearing on airplanes and public transportation systems to slow the spread of the coronavirus.”

While addressing his nomination today, Biden’s former rival said, “This administration can deliver policies and resources that will create jobs, rise to the climate challenge, and equitably serve all Americans.”

And remember how many times the Trump administration touted “infrastructure week?”

ABC points out, “Buttigieg would bring new diversity to the administration Biden has promised will “look like America,” as the first openly gay Cabinet secretary approved by the U.S. Senate to serve in U.S. history… Buttigieg, at age 38, would also be the youngest person nominated to Biden’s Cabinet — bringing the average age of Biden’s Cabinet and Cabinet-level appointees down from 61 to 59.”
