Jim Acosta is taking down Republican politicians who are refusing to institute precautions or promote vaccines during this recent COVID surge. The CNN anchor specifically took aim at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for barring school districts from enacting mask mandates and for telling President Biden “I don’t want to hear a blip about COVID from you.” Acosta called it an “I know you are but what I am I moment… Not exactly a JFK profile in courage moment.”
“People should not have to die so some politicians can own the libs. They’re not owning anybody. They may end up owning the pandemic because they’re prolonging it. Perhaps it may be time to start naming these new variants after them. Instead of the Delta variant, why not call it the DeSantis variant instead of the Delta variant?” We could sell beer koozies that say ‘Don’t Florida My Fauci,’ and use the money to help pay for all of the funerals that will be coming in the days to come.”
This prompted #DeSantisVariant on Twitter.
I feel awful for Florida residents right now. None of this had to happen. #DeSantisVariant

The #DeSantisVariant will help COVID exceed the Spanish Flu Pandemic numbers of 1918-1920. #OpenSeasonOnFloridians

The Covid-19 case rate in Florida — 90 per 100,000 — is among the worst in the world. Only Louisiana and Botswana are worse. Let that sink in.#DeSantisVariant
