Dr. Anthony Fauci has been sidelined by the White House of late but he appeared before Congress on Tuesday where he said scientists are closing in on a vaccine to COVID-19 (watch above).

Fauci also addressed Donald Trump’s statement that he wanted to “slow the testing down.”

As for the states seeing spikes in cases, Fauci points out, “we are now seeing a disturbing surge of infections that looks like it’s a combination, but one of the things is an increase in community spread and that’s something that I’m really quite concerned about.”
Fauci on coronavirus in US: "If you look at how we've been hit, we've been hit badly. We've had now over 120,000 deaths and 2.5 million infections. So it's a serious situation… the next couple weeks are going to be critical in our ability to address those surges we are seeing" pic.twitter.com/VIY9qr3BT4

Fauci appeared alongside CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield, FDA chief Dr. Stephen Hahn and the Assistant Secretary for Health, Admiral Brett Giroir, the former coronavirus testing czar.
There is one common thread in today’s House #COVID19 hearing: Fauci, Redfield, Hahn and Giroir are all warning about the huge health and economic risks of reopening too fast.
This is a direct response to White House efforts to let politics guide our medical decisions.
