It’s been a long time since Donald Trump did a long-form interview with a network that isn’t spelled F-O-X. But 60 Minutes aired an interview Sunday night that Lesley Stahl did last Thursday with the President. During the interview, Trump was asked whether there will be more turnover in the White House. He replied that there were some people working for him that he isn’t thrilled with. Stahl then specifically asked whether Defense Secretary James Mattis is going to leave. Trump said:
“I think he’s sort of a Democrat if you want to know the truth. But General Mattis is a good guy, we get along very well. He may leave, I mean at some point everyone leaves.”
There have been questions about Trump’s relationship with Mattis, especially after this quote in Bob Woodward’s book “Fear: Trump in the White House.”
“Mattis was particularly exasperated and alarmed, telling close associates that the president acted like — and had the understanding of — ‘a fifth- or sixth-grader,’”
