Donald and Ivanka Trump are you coming under fire for social media posts promoting Goya products. First came this post from Ivanka Trump.
If it’s Goya, it has to be good.

She was instantly criticized, but that didn’t stop her dad from taking things a step further, promoting the brand right from the Oval Office.

These endorsements were in reaction to the backlash Goya faced after their CEO lavished praise on Donald Trump last week. But several legal and ethics experts say Ivanka’s picture is a violation of ethics standards. And while it would appear her dad crossed the line as well, the president is actually exempt from the law. But Walter Shaub, the former Director of the Office of Government Ethics points out that the president’s Instagram post shows, “This is an official campaign by the Trump administration to support Goya, making it all the more clear that Ivanka’s tweet was a violation of the misuse of position regulations.”
5 CFR § 2635.702 – Use of public office for private gain
An employee shall not use their public office for their own private gain, for the endorsement of any product, service or enterprise, or for the private gain of friends, relatives…

Law & Crime writes that Ivanka’s office is responding to the criticism today:
A spokesperson for an unrepentant Ivanka Trump insisted that the Goya endorsement was nothing more than expression of a personal belief — and that allegations of her having violated federal ethics rules were the media’s fault. Dredging up one of her favorite deflections, Ivanka blamed the “cancel culture movement” for attempting to silence her. Last month, the villainous “cancel culture” kept Ivanka from commencement speeches, this month, it’s trying to silence her love of beans.
While Ivanka likely won’t be reprimanded for this free advertisement, she is now the subject of a lot of memes.
