You may not know the name Jeffrey Rosen but you should. After Christmas, he’ll be the acting Attorney General of the United States. He’ll only be in office a few weeks before the Biden administration takes over but there are concerns about what Rosen could do in that short time. The New York Times writes:
Rosen has kept a low profile, but with Attorney General William P. Barr’s pending resignation, he is set to be the nation’s top law enforcement official for the delicate final month of Mr. Trump’s presidency. It will be an extraordinary responsibility for a man who has no prosecutorial experience — and who has participated in several decisions in which the department took steps that favored the president’s friends or punished his perceived enemies.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow breaks the role Rosen “played in minimizing the criminal referral of Donald Trump’s Ukraine scheme for which he was impeached, and other times Rosen helped Trump and his friends.” Watch above.
And the final days of the Trump presidency promises to be a chaotic time, with the possibility many pardons and maybe a bogus voter fraud investigation or two. Also, The Associated Press reports that “Trump is considering pushing to have a special counsel appointed to advance a federal tax investigation into the son of President-elect Joe Biden.” But they say this could set up “a potential showdown” with the incoming acting attorney general.
A key question will be whether Rosen can stand up to presidential pressure — and potentially withering attacks — in the waning weeks of the Trump administration. If not, Rosen could be cast aside in favor of others more willing to do Trump’s bidding.
"AG Barr's resignation is a five-alarm fire…Barr is getting out of the [getaway] vehicle because perhaps he does not want to be part of the next series of wrongful events. I am deeply concerned," DC's @AGKarlRacine tells me tonight. Powerful words:pic.twitter.com/G3A2BLEWH3
