John Bolton may not have expected a hard-hitting interview from The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert, but the last night host didn’t let Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor off easy. Colbert grilled the author of “The Room Where It Happened” about how he ever backed Trump?
SC: “What could be worse in Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden’s philosophy than betraying your country to a hostile foreign leader?”
JB: “What I thought in 2016 was, we at least have to try it out and so I voted for Trump. Having experienced 17 months of working with him I can’t in good conscience do that again. That’s why I’m not voting for him and I’m not gonna vote for Biden.”
SC: “I guess what is exasperating is there is absolutely nothing that Donald Trump has done that is surprising to me. My rule is everything you think about Donald Trump is probably true… How did you not know beforehand that he’s just hollow?”
JB: “Because I couldn’t believe it was that bad….”
SC: “You’re a national negotiator, how could you be naive? You’ve dealt with the worst people in the world.”
JB: “You’ve really insulted me now by calling me naive.”
As expected, tough questions from @StephenAtHome but I enjoyed joining the @colbertlateshow https://t.co/G1Bi3Qlbqm
