One Capitol Hill police officer is being hailed a hero for his actions during the siege. As a mob ran up the stairs inside the building close to the entrance of the Senate chambers, Eugene Goodman led rioters the other way. And he did this all by himself. A HuffPost reporter caught it on video.
Reporter @igorbobic recorded that now-famous video of the Capitol police officer distracting the mob from the Senate’s open doors and offering himself as bait. “I had no idea how close we came to disaster” at the time, Bobic says. “He may have made the difference.” pic.twitter.com/AzQnsmotnW

Now some members of Congress are proposing a bill to award Goodman the Congressional Gold Medal.
In moments of crisis, there are always individuals who rise to the occasion and put themselves in harm’s way in defense of others. Proud to introduce this legislation with @RepCharlieCrist and @RepNancyMace to honor Officer Eugene Goodman’s heroic actions on January 6th. https://t.co/GyymEY5Gui

So far Goodman has stayed silent about what happened that day. The Associated Press says:
Officer Eugene Goodman isn’t saying whether he thinks he saved the Senate, as many of the millions who’ve viewed the video believe. In fact, Goodman isn’t saying anything at all publicly — not to reporters, not on social media. And he’s asked the force’s union, bosses, family and friends to help him maintain his privacy and not publicly discuss the events of Jan. 6.
I spoke w/ Officer Goodman a few days ago.
I thanked him for his cool head in the midst of unbelievable pressure!
We also laughed about our sock battles. Check out this old video of us. He’s a national hero, & he’s got the flyest sock game on the U.S. Capitol Police Force! pic.twitter.com/OwQSJv5PAm
