Bail was increased for the main officer charged in the death of George Floyd. Monday, Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin made his first court appearance, facing a judge via a video feed. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder without intent, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune writes:
Prosecutor Matthew Frank argued that the “severity of the charges” and the strength of public opinion against Chauvin made him a more likely flight risk. Frank asked Circuit Court Judge Jeannice Reding to raise bail from $1.25 million from $1 million without conditions, and to $1 million from $750,000 with conditions.
Chauvin and his lawyer, Eric Nelson, did not object in the short hearing, which lasted 15 minutes.
The conditions for Chauvin’s release at the lower amount call for him to abide by all laws, have no contact with Floyd’s family and surrender any guns and firearms licenses. He would also be required not to leave the state.
In a handwritten note on the order, the judge added a stipulation for Chauvin: “Do not work in law enforcement or security.”
