Andrew Cuomo Given A Week To Submit Evidence As Impeachment Inquiry Nears End

The bombshell report on Andrew Cuomo that outlined several sexual harassment claims has prompted the New York State Assembly to accelerate its own investigation against him. According to NBC New York, it is wrapping up soon:

The New York State Assembly Judiciary Committee has given Gov. Andrew Cuomo an Aug. 13 deadline to provide any evidence he wants before the committee considers articles of impeachment against him.

“We write to inform you that the Committee’s investigation is nearing completion and the Assembly will soon consider potential articles of impeachment against your client,” the committee’s lawyers wrote to the governor’s lawyers.

The New York Times points out:

The Assembly began a broad impeachment inquiry into the governor in March, which had started slowly, in part because it was examining several scandals involving Mr. Cuomo, including his handling of nursing home deaths during the pandemic, that could lead to the governor’s impeachment.

But after a report from the New York State attorney general’s office this week concluded that Mr. Cuomo had sexually harassed nearly a dozen women, the Assembly’s leaders signaled that they intended to expedite their inquiry and move on to an impeachment vote.

Cuomo continues to deny the allegations against him and has made it clear he has no plans to resign. If he is impeached, Gov. Kathy Hochul would take over, becoming the first female governor in New York history.
