Alec Baldwin is talking about his impersonation of Donald Trump in the Hollywood Reporter and while Saturday Night Live is a comedy show, he says he doesn’t see a lot of humor in playing the current President. Baldwin said:
“Every time I do it now, it’s like agony. Agony. I can’t. If things don’t go in the right direction for the midterms. … I could go out on the street, stand on any corner and tap 10 people on the shoulder. And all 10 of them, in all likelihood, would be more qualified — ethically, morally, intellectually and spiritually — than Trump. I’ll vote for Mitt Romney. I don’t care. Anybody over this guy.”
Obviously, Trump read the story (or someone told him what Baldwin said) because he tweeted about it first thing this morning. Trump first called him “Alex Baldwin,” and misspelled “dieing’ but later removed that Tweet and replaced it with this one.
Alec Baldwin, whose dying mediocre career was saved by his terrible impersonation of me on SNL, now says playing me was agony. Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch. Bring back Darrell Hammond, funnier and a far greater talent!

While Trump says it is agony to watch, let’s remember Baldwin won an Emmy for his portrayal of the president.
As for Baldwin’s reply to Trump’s morning tweet, he isn’t holding back. And he is signaling his impersonation may continue as long as Trump is in office.
Agony though it may be, I’d like to hang in there for the impeachment hearings, the resignation speech, the farewell helicopter ride to Mara-A-Lago. You know. The Good Stuff. That we’ve all been waiting for.
