Twitter says it will require Donald Trump to remove a post containing misinformation about coronavirus. And until he does so, he’s banned from tweeting. From The Washington Post:
“President Trump’s tweet of a video clip from a Fox News interview — in which he said that children are “almost immune” from covid-19 — violates the site’s rules against misinformation, the company said. Twitter hid the post and said he will not be able to tweet from his account until he deletes it, although he can appeal the decision.
“Twitter spokeswoman Liz Kelley said the tweet “is in violation of the Twitter Rules on COVID-19 misinformation. The account owner will be required to remove the Tweet before they can Tweet again.”
Earlier in the day, Facebook removed a post from Trump where he used the same video clip from Fox News. It was the first time Facebook has taken down a Trump post.
The Post writes that Facebook has faced increasing pressure to better moderate the site. More than 1000 advertisers have boycotted the site in recent weeks.
More than 240,000 children have been documented to have COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Update: Twitter now says it has banned, temporarily, another Trump account, not the President’s. We’re waiting to see if the Washington Post to issue a clarification.
