The outcome may be all but predetermined but it’s interesting to note that the ratings for Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial have been higher than his first one year ago. The New York Times writes:

More than 12 million people have watched live television coverage of the second Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald J. Trump, an audience larger than the one for the first trial a little more than a year ago, according to Nielsen.

The Times adds that viewership dropped dramatically on the second day of Trump’s impeachment in 2020 but this year but that was not the case with Impeachment II.

The reason may be partly due to so many people working from home in 2021.

It could also mean good news for Democrats as the target audience for the House managers was more than the 50 GOP Senators, most of whom had made up their mind before the trial began. Millions of those watching from home were

Fox News had the lowest ratings of the three major cable channels. MSNBC was first, followed by CNN.
