Donald Trump was up very early today stewing over the Mueller investigation. He started tweeting at 4:14 this morning saying, “The inner workings of the Mueller investigation are a total mess.” Then he went on to say, “A TOTAL WITCH HUNT LIKE NO OTHER IN AMERICAN HISTORY!” It sounds like more of the same, except this is actually the first time Trump has mentioned the investigation on Twitter in a month. That is leading many people to question the timing of these new attacks on Robert Mueller.
"Does President Trump know something about the Russian investigation that you and I don't know?" Asks @jaketapper referencing Trump's "twitter tear" this morning, "lashing out against special counsel Robert Mueller and his team" https://t.co/vFYvDEYrAv pic.twitter.com/ADzEGi6ZiS

The timing could be two-fold. One reason Trump may be especially sensitive is that he may soon have to tell his side of the story to Mueller, at least in writing. The Washington Post reports that Trump and his attorneys have been going over questions that Mueller wants Trump to answer. :
There are at least two dozen questions, all of which relate to activities and episodes from before Trump’s election, according to Giuliani and others briefed on the questions.
“There are some that create more issues for us legally than others,” Giuliani said. He said some were “unnecessary,” some were “possible traps,” and “we might consider some as irrelevant.”
Trump spent more than four hours meeting with his attorneys Monday and 90 minutes Wednesday night, according to people familiar with the sessions.
Giuliani said the special counsel has not imposed a firm deadline, but he added that Trump’s answers “could be tomorrow.”
Another reason? Trump may be worried more indictments may be coming. According to The Atlantic, these could hit close to home:
The recent rumors about forthcoming indictments have not been baseless. Donald Trump Jr. has reportedly been telling friends that he expects to be indicted as early as this month, though it’s still unknown what he would be charged with. Roger Stone has also said he is “prepared” to be indicted “for some extraneous crime pertaining to my business, or maybe not even pertaining to the 2016 election.”
Meanwhile, an associate of Roger Stone said he expected to be indicted this week. Business Insider reports:
Jerome Corsi, a far-right political commentator and longtime associate of Roger Stone, said this week that the special counsel Robert Mueller told him he will be charged in the Russia investigation for perjury.
“They told me they were going to indict me,” Corsi told NBC Newson Monday.
“I fully anticipate that the next few days I will be indicted by Mueller..”
Those few days bring us to tomorrow. Perhaps a Friday surprise is on the way.
