Two members of Congress say their colleague, Georgia GOP Rep. Andrew Clyde, refused to shake the hand of DC Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone when they ran into each other inside the Capitol Wednesday.
California Rep. Eric Swalwell wrote on Twitter that when Fanone introduced himself as “someone who fought to defend the Capitol,” Clyde, who has compared the Jan. 6 Insurrection to a “normal tourist visit,” didn’t shake Fanone’s outstretched hand.
Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who, we should point out is a Republican, backed up Swalwell’s account on his official Twitter feed.
The inexcusable disrespect shown to Officer Fanone is made worse knowing how often Clyde and many other GOP lawmakers loudly proclaim their support for law enforcement. Fanone has been vocal about how angry he is at the attempts by some Republicans to downplay the events at the Capitol that day. Who can blame him? Fanone says he sees a team of doctors to treat the injuries he received from being assaulted by rioters on Jan. 6,

The video used specific instances where each of the 21 Republican members of Congress who voted Tuesday against giving congressional gold medals to the officers who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6 (the bill still passed).
