Rick Santorum’s recent comments aren’t just causing a division in the country, it’s also causing friction within CNN where the former Senator works as a commentator. Santorum has been MIA on CNN since these controversial comments on Native Americans.
After this speech, there were calls for CNN to fire Santorum, but there was no response from the network and the former presidential candidate remained mum until Monday night. Chris Cuomo invited Santorum on his show to address the controversial remarks. Those expecting an apology were disappointed. Santorum instead offered up spin, saying he “misspoke.” Here’s part of what he said:
Just to be clear, what I was not saying was that Native American culture–I misspoke. What I was talking about is, as you can see from the run-up, I was talking about the founding of our country. I had given a long talk about the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the ideas behind those, and that I was saying we sort of created that anew, if you will. And I was not trying to dismiss Native Americans. In fact, I mentioned them because, yes, they were here and did have an impact.
While Cuomo challenged him to an extent, many viewers were far from satisfied.
Viewers weren’t the only ones upset to see Santorum on CNN again, Don Lemon also aired his grievances about the interview with Cuomo. As Lemon got ready to begin his show, he said:
“I apologize to the viewers who were insulted by this. I was sitting in my office, furious, because he’s done it so many times.”
Take a look at what else Lemon said to his colleague.
Don Lemon was 100% right being hot with rage and was 100% on target with his comments.
I loved when Chris Cuomo asked Don Lemon for "solutions" on how to deal with Rick Santorum and Don said, "I know the solution".
It was obvious Don was saying, get Santorum off of CNN network.— BK.?️??? (@SactoCaNative) May 4, 2021
