Shooting at YouTube HQ

Three people were wounded when a woman with a gun entered the headquarters of YouTube in San Bruno, CA. and began shooting.

• The suspected shooter, a woman, was reported dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
• A spokesman for Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, a level 1 trauma center, said the facility received three patients. One 36-year-old man was in critical condition, one 32-year-old woman was in serious condition and one 27-year-old woman was in fair condition.

Trump Wants Troops To Guard Southern Border

Donald Trump wants to use U.S. troops, not the national guard, to patrol the southern border.  Since Congress didn’t fund his wall, he now wants to use soldiers to stop immigrants from crossing.

But is that legal?  Wouldn’t it require Congressional approval?

A Caravan Of Inaccuracy:

President Trump is now waging a Twitter war against a group of innocent Hondurans trekking to the US via Mexico. Based on the information he gleaned from Fox & Friends,

• Mr. Trump believes that this “caravan” is comprised of Central American gang members and has reprimanded the Mexican government for not turning away the migrants at their own borders.
• In actuality, this caravan consists mostly of scared women and children desperately fleeing the violence and political turmoil in their home countries. Mexican law also fully allows the migrants to travel anywhere in the country as long as they entered it legally.
• Our video “Exodus to America” goes into great detail about the troubles that these migrants face, both in their homes and en route to the US. The New York Times can tell you everything you need to know about this particular instance of Trump in his element.

The caravan has been stopped for several days as the Mexican government decides what to do with the group.

Lawyer Sentenced In Mueller Probe Becomes First To Be Jailed:

A Dutch lawyer named Alex van der Zwann today became the first person to be sentenced in Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russia interfering with the 2016 presidential election.

• CNN reports that he was sentenced to 30 days in a federal penitentiary and fined $20,000 for lying to Mueller’s special investigations team about the dealings of former Trump aides Paul Manafort and Rick Gates. Gates has pleaded guilty to lying about his contacts in Russia and Manafort awaits trial.
• Politico‘s article says that Van der Zwann has participated in dodgy affairs ever since 2012. He had helped Gates and Manafort draft a memo that defended Viktor Yanukovych, the Ukrainian president at the time, from those accusing him of jailing his political rival, Yulia Tymoshenko.

EPA Chief Left To Twist In The Wind.

Donald Trump’s form of torture is now infamous.  Allow soon to be fired members of his administration to dangle in the breeze for a bit, until the fatal tweet from the boss.  That’s the case with Scott Pruitt, the soon to be ex-head of the EPA.  Politico has a great take on Pruitt’s fate.

• Tomorrow will be 50 years since Martin Luther King was assassinated outside a Memphis motel.  The New York Times has a beautiful remembrance.
• Check out The Atlantic for a look at why teachers want so much more than a pay raise in Oklahoma.  Many were striking for the second day.
