The Auschwitz Memorial delivered possibly the most powerful rebuke of Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene for her remarks that compared COVID-19 vaccines to the treatment of Jewish people during the Holocaust. On the Memorial’s official twitter page, the following message was posted:

“The instrumentalization of the tragedy of Jews who suffered, were humiliated, marked with a yellow star, isolated in ghettos & murdered during the Holocaust, in a debate on different systems that aim at protecting public health is a sad symptom of moral and intellectual decline.”

Greene has not only refused to apologize for the offensive comparison, she actually tried to blame the controversy on “left-wing media” and claimed that anti-Semitism is rampant within the Democratic Party.

Greene’s initial remarks were instantly denounced by Democratic lawmakers, but there was silence from the top three House Republicans, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy,  Minority Whip Steve Scalise and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik.

It took several days for the GOP leaders to publicly criticize Greene, a rookie legislator whose support of Qanon conspiracy theories and Trump’s election lies have made her a darling for the MAGA base and a strong fundraiser.
