As a historic number of women were officially sworn into Congress today, some of those new representatives were making history of their own. Deb Haaland (NM-116) and Sharice Davids (KS-03) both Democrats, became the first two Native American congresswomen.

Representative Haaland tells News and Guts:

“I can’t wait to bring New Mexico values to Congress. As the representative for the families in the state’s first congressional district, I will be an advocate for renewable energy jobs to protect our land, air and water, a fighter to build opportunities for our kids, and a champion for equity.”
