Pfizer Says Safety Milestone Allows It To Apply For Emergency Use Authorization

There’s a strong indication that Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine may be the first to market. Just a week after announcing its vaccine is more than 90% effective, STAT News reports:

Pfizer may be within days of filing for an emergency use authorization for its Covid-19 vaccine, having collected the safety data necessary to submit an application to the Food and Drug Administration, CEO Albert Bourla said Tuesday.
“We are very close to submitting for an emergency use authorization,” Bourla said during the STAT Summit, which this year is a virtual event. Bourla sidestepped the question of whether Pfizer’s filing would be made this week.

We have only heard from #Pfizer so far. If this is true however, and an Emergency Use Authorization is granted, here is what it means. By the end of this year, people (outside of a clinical trial) could receive the #CovidVaccine for the first time. Potentially before Christmas.
