As Donald Trump ratchets up the political heat again for his own personal gain, there is a side effect for the rest of us. Trump and all his sycophantic sidekicks at Fox News are also shredding the very soul of this country. One of the few tiny tidbits we actually believe from a recent Fox poll is that 59% of respondents believe Trump is tearing this country apart. And that’s a Fox poll. Imagine what the real number must be after this week?
How do they do it? It’s a predictable pattern that begins early in the morning with raging tweet-storms from the White House residence, followed by the occasional Oval Office outrage. Then, when Trump signs off, the night crew of Carlson and Hannity take over. Twelve plus hours of anger every day.
But then there’s the occasional “special event” like this weeks U.N. General Assembly. To watch Trump perform as he did there on the world stage is to suspend belief in life as we know it. The Trump press conference on Wednesday was saturated with untruths. Many are the same lies we’ve heard for sometime, such as China paying for tariffs. NO! Or, American is energy independent. NO! Now we have the “perfect conversation” with the president of Ukraine that we know was just another lie.
It’s behavior that’s not rational, not normal and nearly three years later, it’s not safe. Our country is in danger. The grownups are long gone. Trump is going it alone, just him and his tweet box.
This latest whistleblower episode peels back an ugly truth of what’s really going on inside the White House. It’s as obvious as the blonde mane on his head. To try and explain it away as a “hoax” only cements his guilt. What an embarrassment this has become.
This nation was never perfect, but some of us long for, and can hardly remember, the days before Trump and the never ending pity party that is Fox. Murdoch’s gang and the GOP are now the perpetual victims of those dastardly Democrats.
And the lies. The never ending lies. But it’s all part of a strategy for Trump. Axios published what it called Trump’s six-part playbook for 2020, which looks much like the 2016 version. But it’s not just for the campaign. This is his impeachment game plan too:
- Argue that your opponent is guilty of something as bad or worse than the accusations against you.
- Create constant fog, amplified by Twitter. Allege the media is guilty, too.
- Convince party leaders and Fox News to fall instantly in line, focused solely on your opponent’s supposed transgressions.
- Demand documents and testimony, fostering an “everyone’s dirty and hiding something” atmosphere.
- Stymie anyone on your side who’s thinking of dissenting by torching them on Twitter, like he did to Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah).
- Bet that your own standing, while getting no better, gets no worse.
And, never, ever admit you’re wrong. And never, ever apologize.
