North Carolina Rep. Madison Cawthorn’s performative approach to legislation was once again on public display.

The freshman congressman with a fondness for punching rotting trees on Wednesday took to the House floor to declare, in very dramatic fashion, his opposition to HR8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. He also issued a warning to anyone who dared think about taking his beloved guns, something…checks notes…NO ONE has suggested!

What does HR8 do? One thing it doesn’t do is take anyone’s guns away. If passed, the bill would simply provide universal background checks and close the gun show loophole. This is something more than 90% of Americans are in favor of, incidentally.

Congressman Ted Lieu, who unlike Cawthorn actually served in the military, took his fellow legislator to task after his silly macho display. Lieu reminded him that such comments coming just two months after the Insurrection at the Capitol, were uncalled for.
