Robert Mueller is going after Trump, Inc.
In an afternoon leak to The New York Times, Maggie Haberman reports Mueller has subpoenaed the Trump organization for documents, including some related to Russia.
From The Times:
- “The subpoena is the latest indication that the investigation, which Mr. Trump’s lawyers once regularly assured him would be completed by now, will drag on for at least several more months. Word of the subpoena comes as Mr. Mueller appears to be broadening his investigation to examine the role foreign money may have played in funding Mr. Trump’s political activities.”
Recently interviewed witnesses have said they were asked about a possible real estate deal in Moscow.
White House does not push back against Mueller for subpoena to Trump Organization: "We’re going to continue to fully cooperate out of respect for the special counsel.”

Trump has said the special counsel would be crossing a “red line” if he looked into the Trump family business beyond Russia.
Senior congressional source says that Mueller beginning with a subpoena, rather than typical document request, suggests special counsel intends to put every Trump Org staffer on alert not to destroy evidence.

Also, the President has met with a longtime Washington lawyer, Emmet Flood, who represented Bill Clinton during his impeachment process.
"This subpoena covers Mueller's bases … and the subpoena makes their obligations crystal clear."
