WAPO: Trump administration officials dismissed benefits of national monuments
Accidentally released documents show officials instead emphasized the value of logging and drilling.
Officials at the Department of the Interior accidentally released documents on Monday showing that they looked for evidence to support unraveling protections for national monuments, disregarded evidence in support of preserving them, and ignored warnings that doing so could put some historic sites at risk. The documents indicate that the Department of the Interior’s 4 month survey was tailored to fit the Administration’s agenda to shrink the protections for some 27 national monuments.
