“The picture, if you haven’t seen it, shows Colbie Holderness, one of two ex-wives who have accused senior White House aide Rob Porter of physically abusing them,” writes Ruth Marcus. “Porter, in the statement announcing his resignation Wednesday, declared that “these outrageous allegations are simply false. I took the photos given to the media nearly 15 years ago and the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described. Okay, then, explain the photo.”
In a powerful op-ed, the Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus challenges White House apologists of former staff secretary Rob Porter to “look at the picture” of his ex-wife Colbie Holderness with a black eye. She alleges the bruising was at the hand of her husband. His other ex-wife also alleges that he abused her. The White House had initially rallied around Porter, led by Chief of Staff John Kelly. But as Marcus argues, it’s difficult to support Porter when confronted with the photos.
