NASA had discovered that a cavity two-thirds the area of Manhattan underneath Thwaites earlier this year, which indicates that the glacier is melting fast.
The Thwaites Glacier is one of five recently identified unstable Antarctic glaciers which have doubled their rate of ice loss in just six years.
