Reuters: Hong Kong violence prompts reminder that China troops close at hand
“The violence has far exceeded the call for democracy and the demonstrators are now the people’s enemy,” Hong Kong chief executive Lam said in a defiant televised address.
The protests in Hong Kong have reached new levels. As CNN’s Will Ripley points out, “In less than 24 hours, Hong Kong has seen an officer-involved shooting, protests, street brawls, pepper spray, tear gas, fires, an acid attack, motorcycle rage, gridlock, business closures, vandalism, and a man being doused with petroleum and set on fire.”
