Politico: Grassley breaks with Trump over protecting whistleblower
As President Donald Trump and his allies attack the whistleblower that kicked off the House’s impeachment inquiry, the still unidentified person gained a powerful ally on Tuesday: Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley.
Here’s another sign Trump’s world is starting to crumble. Last year, CNBC wrote that “Chuck Grassley has done more than anyone else in Washington to advance the Trump agenda.” But now he’s at odds with the president when it comes to the whistleblower. He released a statement saying:
“This person appears to have followed the whistleblower protection laws and ought to be heard out and protected. We should always work to respect whistleblowers’ requests for confidentiality.”
