Politico: DHS Concerned About Trump Reinstatement Conspiracy Theory, Top Official Says
DHS’s top counterterrorism official told members of Congress about the department’s concerns in a private briefing.
The conspiracy theory that Donald Trump will be reinstated as president in August may be a laughing matter on Twitter, but the Department of Homeland Security is certainly taking it seriously.
John Cohen told Congress’ House Committee on Homeland Security that DHS is monitoring discussion about the false claim. The concern comes because it implies that the 2020 election was rigged, and much as with the deadly Jan. 6 Insurrection, that type of narrative could trigger a violent response from extremists.
