NPR: White House Walks Back Order On Refugee Limits After Backlash
Press secretary Jen Psaki said President Biden would raise the refugee cap by May 15. Earlier, the White House said it would keep the number of refugees capped at 15,000 for the fiscal year.
This reversal came shortly afte Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wrote:
Completely and utterly unacceptable. Biden promised to welcome immigrants, and people voted for him based on that promise.
Upholding the xenophobic and racist policies of the Trump admin, incl the historically low + plummeted refugee cap, is flat out wrong.
