NPR: State Department Orders Non-Essential U.S. Government Employees Out Of Iraq
The travel advisory ordered the departure of employees at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad and consulate in Erbil. It was not immediately clear what led to the order on Wednesday.
The order stated, “The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Iraq.” This is believed to be a result of escalating tensions with neighboring Iran.
