NBC News: Chinese doctor punished for coronavirus warnings dies from disease, WHO confirms
A prominent Chinese doctor who was punished by police when he tried to warn his fellow medics about the new coronavirus has died from the disease, officials at the World Health Organization have confirmed.
Dr. Li Wenliang first noticed what he believed was a “SARS-like” disease back in December. When he tried to issue a warning, he was “reprimanded by police.” Now he has died from the very disease he tried to blow the whistle on.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Li Wenliang. We all need to celebrate work that he did on #2019nCoV – @DrMikeRyan
